A Laugh or Two

“Mom!!” A little girl came running through the gate at top speed towards her mother.
As she stopped in front of her, the little girl got a chance to catch her breath. She was wearing a blue dress and she was only six years old. Her hair was blond in pigtails and she had gleaming brown eyes. “Mom!” The girl exclaimed again, once she had managed to catch her breath.

Alice looked down at her exited looking daughter. “What is it Dinah?”
“Can I go roller-skating with Dee and Dum tomorrow?” The little girl asked, pleading.

Alice frowned. “Don’t you think you’re a little young for that?”
“Mom, I’m already six!” The little girl held up her fingers as though proving her point.
“And that is too little.” Alice replied with a shake of her head.
Dinah pouted, and crossed her arms. “It’s not fair.”

“Don’t worry.” Alice replied. “You can go when you’re older. Now, why don’t you go see what your father is up to?”
A smile lit up Dinah’s face. “Okay!” She ran away from her mother who was smiling, glad that her daughter had been distracted from her previous goal.

After a few minutes she walked over to the house that Dinah had entered.

“Hey that’s my hat!” Alice heard someone say in a voice that was trying to sound annoyed but had a lilt of amusement behind it.
“It’s my hat now!” Dinah exclaimed as she came running over to her mother again.
“Dinah what do you have there?” Alice asked in light voice as she tried not to laugh.
“My hat!” Dinah replied proudly wearing a large top hat on her head.

Alice couldn’t help but chuckle when she saw this. “I think it’s a little too big for you Dinah.”

“How true that is.” A blonde man came up behind Dinah and lifted the hat off her head and placed it back on his own. “This hat is much too big for you.”

Dinah stuck out her tongue. “It isn’t.”
“Yes it is.” The Hatter replied just as firmly.
“No it isn’t.”
“Yes it is.”
“No it isn’t.”
“Yes it is.”

Alice rolled her eyes in amusement. Sometimes being married to the Mad Hatter was like having two kids instead of one. However her thoughts were soon interrupted by Dinah’s laughing as the Hatter picked up his daughter and placed her on his shoulders.

“Weeee!” Dinah shouted, her face showing over the large hat.

Alice couldn’t help but laugh at this as well. The Hatter looked over when he heard her laughing. He glanced up at his daughter. “Should we make her laugh some more?”

Dinah nodded eagerly and the Hatter swung her back onto the ground.

Before Alice could do anything the two of them were tickling her.

“Hey!” She exclaimed through laughing. “This isn’t fair! Two on one!”
Dinah was laughing however she was laughing even more when a minute later the tables had turned and her mother and father were tickling her.

After a while they eventually stopped all three of them on the ground. Dinah was lying with her head on her fathers lap and Alice was content sitting beside them. A loving smile was on her face when she looked over at her family.
